Abstract
The demand for fresh water is increasing because of industrial development, intensified agriculture, increasing of world population and improvement of standards of life. Today, access to the fresh water has become a serious challenge in many parts of the world. One of the most affordable solution for this problem is to use solar still system to provide the drinking water from brackish water sources. One of the most important subjects of attention for many researchers has been to find appropriate regions for economical use of this system. Because of time consuming and costly processes of solar still fabrication many researchers prefer to do computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of solar still to assess the productivity of the system. In this project we want to develop a 3D CFD model of simple solar still (single slope solar still) and we concentrate on the influence of the most important factor of the system productivity that is solar radiation intensity. At the end of the project we can conclude that if solar radiation intensity increases by 50%, the productivity of the system will be increased by 37.4%. We hope that by investigating the other important factors in productivity of the system in many other projects we can find the best regions for establishment of this system.
