Caddisflies (Trichoptera) of Darband River (Iran: Tehran)

Taxonomic classification and detection of new species always had been an interesting subject in science world. Human want to know what's going around his environment; he find new species with new unknown characteristics and uses them in different aspects of life. In this survey Trichoptera species of Darbad River were determined. It took 4 months from April, with appearing of primitive larva, to July as adults vanished. The study was done in 3 steps; 1. Geographic searches to find suitable places for sampling, 2. Outdoor experiments and sampling for three groups of Larvae; pupae and adults and 3. Laboratory and taxonomic studies. Two stations were specified for experiment. Specimens were collected directly by hand or indirectly with a piece of stick from soaked rock underneath for larvae and pupae. Waterside vegetations and rocks were swept for adults which would be captured by a trap, 10% formaldehyde containers and blacklight. Samples were transmitted to lab in 10% Formaldehyde containers then were moved to 96% Ethanol. Forewing and hindwing venations in addition of male genitalia were perused for taxonomy. Seven families, 7 Genera and 7 species were identified among 90 collected adults. Two species belonging to Polycentropodidae: Polycentropus, Polycentropodidae: Holocentropus. were new and had not been reported before Determined taxons were: Lepidostomatidae: Dinarthrum chaldyrense, Hydrobiosidae: Apsilochorema iranicum, Philopotamidae: Dolophilodes ornate, Rhyacophilidae: Rhyacophila obscura, Hydropsychidae, Polycentropodidae: Polycentropus, Polycentropodidae: Holocentropus. Hydropsichidae.
